Health Crisis Grips Bengaluru as Dengue and Rat Fever Cases Surge
Bengaluru: City is currently facing a severe health crisis with a sharp rise in dengue cases and mounting concerns over rat fever as the monsoon season unfolds. The city has reported the highest number of dengue cases, prompting intensified efforts from the health department to contain the outbreak.
Rat fever, caused by leptospirosis spread through rat droppings, urine, and body fluids, has emerged as a significant concern exacerbated by heavy rains. Doctors are advising residents to be vigilant for symptoms such as headache, redness of the eyes, nausea, vomiting, pain in the hands, blisters on the face, high fever, and joint pain, which typically manifest within two days of infection.
Dr. Rekha from General Hospital highlighted the heightened risk of rat fever during the rainy season, noting over 100 cases reported last year and ongoing detections this year.
Healthcare professionals recommend preventive measures including maintaining hygiene, careful management of water sumps during the monsoon, and immediate medical consultation if symptoms like vomiting and blisters occur. Ensuring cleanliness in households and effective management of environments prone to rat infestations are crucial in stemming the spread of rat fever.
In addition to rat fever, Bengaluru is witnessing a surge in dengue cases, surpassing 10,000 statewide. The city alone has recorded thousands of cases, necessitating proactive measures and strict adherence to cleanliness practices by residents.
As the health department battles these viral diseases, including dengue and chikungunya, community cooperation in maintaining a clean environment is stressed as pivotal in mitigating the risks associated with these infections. Collaboration among residents is crucial in safeguarding public health amidst the ongoing health challenges.
