Press Club Gathering Celebrates 7th Pay Commission Implementation for State Employees

Bengaluru: The BMTC Mazdoor Sangh (RI) and Karnataka Road Transport Mazdoor Sangh Union expressed their appreciation for the state government's decision to implement the 7th Pay Commission's recommendations, effective August 1. This decision, announced during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, promises a substantial 27.5% increase in salaries for state government employees.

At a press club gathering on Thursday, both unions, including the BMTC Maddur Sangh and Karnataka Road Transport Maddur Sangh Union, jointly welcomed the move, highlighting its positive impact on the livelihoods of lakhs of state employees.

While acknowledging this significant step forward, the unions also highlighted the importance of addressing outstanding issues affecting transport workers, particularly those involved in the Shakti Yojana project. They called for a comprehensive salary revision effective January 1, 2024, and urged prompt settlement of arrears dating back to January 1, 2020. Additionally, retired employees await gratuity payments and arrears from 2023, urging swift action from the Chief Minister in the upcoming cabinet meeting.

The decision to implement the 7th Pay Commission's recommendations is a commendable move that will benefit countless employees across the state, stated union representatives, underscoring the fulfillment of long-awaited demands by government employees.

Despite the successes of the Shakti Yojana initiative, transport workers have faced challenges including adverse weather conditions and insufficient compensation for their dedicated service. The unions stressed the urgent need for these issues to be addressed promptly in ongoing discussions.
