Karnataka Medical Council's Delayed Reports Leave Medical Negligence Cases in Limbo
Bengaluru: Families seeking justice for victims of medical negligence face prolonged delays due to the Karnataka Medical Council (KMC) failing to expedite crucial reports. The KMC's report serves as the final word for police investigations into such cases, a responsibility entrusted to a team of 16 doctors.
Since 2015, approximately 25 cases have stalled without KMC's essential findings, hampering legal proceedings. Across the state, about 300 cases await closure pending these crucial reports. Efforts by affected families to seek clarity from both police authorities and KMC officials have yielded little progress. Despite numerous appeals and letters, only the KMC has consistently failed to deliver timely reports.
This situation has left law enforcement authorities grappling with indecision on how to proceed. Without the KMC's report, police are unable to take action even when evidence suggests medical negligence. Consequently, not a single conviction has been secured in these cases, highlighting the systemic issue of delayed justice.
