Billionaire Elon Musk breaks ties with Donald Trump, unveils ‘America Party’ to fight corruption, wasteful governance, and the dominance of the two-party system in U.S. politics

Washington: Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has stirred fresh political waves in the United States by announcing the launch of a new political party named the "America Party", aimed at challenging both the Democratic and Republican establishments. Once a close ally and advisor to former U.S. President Donald Trump, Musk has now turned his back on the former president, declaring that the current political system is plagued by “waste, corruption, and one-party rule in disguise.”

In a bold move, Musk took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on U.S. Independence Day (July 4) to unveil his new party and criticize what he described as a “broken democracy.”

“When our country is being bankrupted by waste and corruption, we are not living in a democracy but a one-party system,” Musk wrote.
“The America Party was created today to give your freedom back.”

To gauge public sentiment, Musk posted a poll on X, asking his followers whether they supported forming a new political alternative. A strong 65.4% voted “Yes”, while 34.6% opposed the idea. Citing this overwhelming support, Musk said the formation of the America Party is backed by “the people’s will.”

Musk also made historical references to military strategist Epaminondas and the Battle of Leuctra, stating that the new party will act like a concentrated force to break through the entrenched two-party dominance in American politics.

“We will use a modern variant of how Epaminondas shattered the myth of Spartan invincibility,” he posted.

Fallout with Trump and Legislative Opposition

Once considered a trusted advisor to Trump, Musk was even named the head of a short-lived “Department of Government Efficiency”, the alliance fractured amid rising ideological and strategic differences. Musk has claimed publicly that Trump wouldn’t have won in 2016 without his help, later resigning and becoming increasingly vocal in his opposition.

Fueling the fallout further was the recent passage of the controversial legislation known as the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” which was signed into law on July 4. The bill, passed by both houses of Congress, has been criticized by Musk as a bloated, taxpayer-draining package that symbolizes government inefficiency.

“Shame on them,” Musk tweeted as the Senate debated the bill.
“This is nothing but a porky pig party”—a slang term used for reckless, wasteful government spending.

Musk argued that the bill’s supporters in Congress were well aware of the political cost, predicting they would face backlash in next year’s primaries.

A New Force in U.S. Politics?

The America Party marks a significant step in Musk’s evolution from tech mogul to political disruptor. With a massive social media following, business empire, and influence over young and independent voters, political analysts are now watching closely whether Musk’s new party will become a viable third force or simply a protest movement against mainstream politics.

With the 2024 U.S. Presidential election cycle already underway, Musk’s entry into the political battlefield may reshape campaign narratives, particularly among voters dissatisfied with traditional choices.
