Actor Now Set to Travel to Thailand for 'Devil' Shoot After Court's Fresh Permission
Bengaluru: In a major development that adds another twist to the ongoing controversy surrounding Kannada actor Darshan, the European nation of Switzerland has reportedly denied him a visa, citing his criminal background linked to an ongoing Renukaswamy murder case. The visa denial has directly impacted the international shooting schedule of his upcoming film, ‘Devil’, which was initially planned to be filmed in Europe.
Visa Revoked Despite Court Permission
Darshan had earlier obtained permission from the 64th CCH Court in Bengaluru on July 14 to travel to Dubai and Europe for the shoot. However, soon after receiving travel clearance, his Schengen visa was revoked by Switzerland, reportedly on the grounds of his involvement in a murder investigation.
"Switzerland’s rejection of Darshan’s visa is based on the seriousness of the criminal charges he is facing. Entry restrictions apply in cases involving severe accusations such as murder," said a legal source aware of the development.
Thailand Replaces Europe: New Shooting Plans Begin
Following the visa denial, Darshan has approached the court once again, this time to seek fresh permission to travel to Thailand as an alternative shooting location. The court has now granted him approval to travel to Thailand between July 11 onward, and he is expected to depart for Phuket next week.
The change in shooting location has come as a last-minute disruption for the Devil team, which had planned a significant European schedule. The production unit is now reportedly reworking the shooting script and logistics to accommodate the shift.
A Cloud of Controversy Over the Actor
Darshan, once hailed as the "Challenging Star" of Kannada cinema, is currently facing severe backlash and scrutiny due to his alleged involvement in a high-profile murder case. The actor’s court-granted temporary freedom to travel abroad has been a subject of intense public and legal debate.
"The ongoing case has already dented the actor’s public image and now, international travel restrictions are further complicating his professional engagements," said a senior member of the Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce.
Industry Reacts to International Snub
The denial of entry into Switzerland is being viewed as a strong signal from European authorities regarding zero tolerance towards individuals with serious criminal charges, even if they are public figures. Film industry insiders suggest that Darshan's future projects might face similar international hurdles, especially if other countries follow suit.
Meanwhile, the 'Devil' shooting team is moving forward with alternative plans to keep the project on track, although producers are reportedly concerned about cost escalations and location constraints.
