Minister Ramalinga Reddy Leads BMTC's Efforts in Enhancing Public Transportation Services
Bengaluru: The
Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) remains steadfast in its
commitment to efficient public transportation across city. Operating from 49
depots and managing a diverse fleet of buses, BMTC caters to the varied needs
of commuters.
In a
development under the 'Prayaas' scheme facilitated by the Regional Provident
Fund Office, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy took the lead in distributing
over 100 pension payment orders to eligible BMTC employees who had completed 58
years of service on Monday.
Launched on
July 21, 2020, the 'Prayaas' scheme aims to streamline the pension issuance,
addressing previous delays that could extend up to a year due to administrative
inefficiencies and documentation requirements. Under this scheme, pension
payment orders are now issued promptly on the employee's last working day at 58
years.
Since its
inception, BMTC has issued a total of 160 pension orders through the 'Prayaas'
scheme. A recent instructional meeting held in June 2024 with the accounts
department ensured clarity on documentation requirements, facilitating seamless
implementation. BMTC's collaboration with Regional Provident Fund officials
further expedited the distribution of pension payment orders to eligible
retirees.
In June 2023,
BMTC launched the 'Shakti Scheme,' providing free travel for women,
significantly benefiting over 75.57 crore women from Karnataka since its
inception. The scheme's popularity has led to an increase in daily trips by
1,654, totaling 58,300 trips per day, covering 11.52 lakh kilometers with 5,637
schedules. BMTC now serves an average of 40 lakh passengers daily, highlighting
its pivotal role in urban transportation.
