Six-week interim bail approved for jailed actor Darshan Thoogudeepa in Renukaswamy murder case; regular bail plea pending
Bengaluru: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday granted interim bail for six weeks to actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, who is currently jailed in connection with the Renukaswamy murder case. The interim bail was granted to enable the actor to undergo surgery for medical conditions related to his spine and feet. The single-judge bench, led by Justice S Vishwajith Shetty, allowed Darshan’s application for interim bail following a review of medical reports.
Darshan, who was arrested on June 11 and is lodged in Ballari Prison, filed the application for interim bail on September 21. The decision follows a hearing on October 28 where Justice Shetty heard arguments from Senior Advocate S Nagesh, representing Darshan, and State Public Prosecutor P Prasanna Kumar, representing the state. Nagesh urged the Court to permit Darshan to undergo surgery at a private facility in Mysuru, with the actor agreeing to cover all associated medical costs. Meanwhile, the State had submitted medical evaluations recommending surgery but argued for treatment in a government facility and suggested an initial examination by a medical board.
Darshan's plea for regular bail, challenging the trial court’s earlier denial, is still pending before the High Court. The case centers on the murder of Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old auto-driver, whose death is alleged to have been caused by an attack reportedly initiated on Darshan’s instructions after social media comments against his partner.
