Singh highlights enhanced security, India's defence self-reliance, and development in Jammu and Kashmir  

Kanpur (UP) – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced a substantial decrease in terrorist incidents in Jammu and Kashmir, attributing the reduction to heightened vigilance by security forces. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Singh expressed confidence in the ongoing efforts to eradicate terrorism from the region and noted the Union Territory's progress in development.

On India-China relations, Singh said India seeks positive ties with its neighbors, citing ongoing talks and resolved issues at the military level, with regular border patrolling continuing.  

During his visit to Kanpur, Singh inspected indigenous defence capabilities at the Field Gun Factory, observing the assembly of artillery and tank components, including the T-72, Dhanush, and Sarang guns. He later attended IIT-Kanpur's 65th Foundation Day, encouraging students to lead India's technological self-reliance, particularly in defence. Singh emphasized reducing defence imports, targeting Rs 50,000 crore in exports by 2029-30, and building a developed India by 2047.

The defence minister called for collaboration across academia, industry, and government, stating, "To achieve our goals, we must walk together to reach greater heights."
