Triumphant Procession in 10 Cars, 30 Bikes, and DJ Music by Gang Rape Accused Sparks Public Outrage; Court Slams Violation, Police Crack Down
Haveri: Seven main accused in the Hangal gang rape case took out a grand road show to celebrate their bail—only to land back behind bars after the video of their procession went viral, triggering public fury and judicial action.
The accused, Aftaadchandan Katti, Madarsab Mandakki, Samiullah Lalanwar, Mohammad Sadiq Agasini, Shoaib Mulla, Tausif Choti and Riyaz Sevikeri, were initially released from the Haveri Sub Jail after being granted bail. But instead of maintaining silence and complying with legal restrictions, the accused took part in a triumphant road show through Akkihalur village, roughly 30 km from the jail, flanked by over 20 supporters, five luxury cars, 30 bikes, and DJ music.
“The police department has arrested seven accused, who were recently granted bail by the district court in a gang rape case, after they violated bail conditions. The accused were rowdy sheeters at the Hanagal town police station and had participated in the procession after getting bail.”
said Superintendent of Police Anshu Kumar S.
Public Outrage and Court Action
The victory sign-flashing procession, captured in multiple viral videos, drew nationwide condemnation and caused widespread anger among citizens and activists. The court swiftly took cognizance of the violation of bail conditions and cancelled the bail of all seven accused.
"A case has been registered against the illegal procession under IPC sections 189(2), 191(2), 281, 351(2), 351(3) and 190 BNS-2023. The Hanagal town police station is handling the investigation. After verifying the footage, we confirmed the presence of all accused in the unlawful road show,"
confirmed SP Anshu Kumar.
From Bail to Jail: The Fall from Arrogance
The celebratory rally—which looked more like a victory parade than a silent return home—featured a full-blown DJ setup, cheering crowds, and symbolic gestures of triumph. The boldness of the accused and the visibility of the rally outraged local communities, women’s rights groups, and civil society, who demanded immediate action.
What was meant to be a show of strength has now become a symbol of reckless arrogance, as all seven men have been rearrested and lodged back in Haveri Jail under stringent legal provisions.
A Warning from the Law
The entire incident serves as a stern warning that bail is not immunity from moral responsibility or legal accountability. Violating judicial conditions, particularly in sensitive cases like gang rape, will lead to swift and uncompromising action.
