India’s External Affairs Minister Denounces Global Narrative Equating Victims with Perpetrators, Blames Pakistan-Sponsored Terrorism for Attempt to Derail Kashmir Tourism
Berlin: In a powerful rebuke of the global narrative surrounding the recent Pahalgam terror attack, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar categorically dismissed any attempts to term it a "Kashmir conflict", calling it a blatant act of terrorism, not a political dispute.
Speaking at the German Council on Foreign Relations, Jaishankar firmly stated that the attack was a strategic assault aimed at dismantling the tourism sector of Jammu & Kashmir, inciting communal tensions and fostering instability.
❝This is not a conflict in Kashmir. This is a terrorist attack. It targets not just Jammu and Kashmir but also the entire Indian nation. When you label this as a ‘Kashmir conflict’, you equate victims with perpetrators — and that is not only incorrect, but also unjust,❞
— Dr. S. Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India
Tourism Under Siege: Target of Terrorism
The April 22 Pahalgam attack, one of the most horrific in recent times, has been widely condemned for its brutality and calculated timing, as it aimed to cripple Kashmir's recovering tourism economy ahead of the summer season.
❝The intent was clear — to instil fear, disrupt livelihoods, and promote religious hatred.❞
Jaishankar emphasised in Berlin.
India Responds with Precision Strikes
In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, targeting nine Pakistan-based terror infrastructures. This marked a strong retaliatory posture by Indian security forces, highlighting New Delhi's zero-tolerance approach to cross-border terrorism.
Pakistan’s Retaliation Fails
In a failed counterattack, Pakistan attempted drone and missile strikes on May 8, 9, and 10, targeting Indian military installations. However, the Indian Army successfully neutralised these threats, shooting down incoming aerial targets, reaffirming India's defensive strength and intelligence preparedness.
A Global Diplomatic Message
Jaishankar’s direct message from Berlin serves as a diplomatic offensive aimed at correcting the global discourse and exposing Pakistan’s continued role in sponsoring cross-border terrorism.
❝Labelling it as a ‘conflict’ dilutes the truth. We must call it what it is — terrorism. Nothing less,❞
The Minister stressed during the final leg of his Netherlands-Denmark-Germany tour.
