Alleges CM Siddaramaiah Is Blaming Centre to Hide Failures; Calls Caste Census A Political Conspiracy
Bengaluru: In a sharp political attack, BJP Karnataka State President B.Y. Vijayendra on Sunday accused Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of deliberately raking up the caste census issue to divert public attention from the RCB celebration stampede that recently left 11 people dead.
Addressing the media in Bengaluru today, Vijayendra slammed the Congress-led state government’s move to reinitiate discussions around the long-pending Kantaraju caste census report, calling it a “desperate distraction” and a conspiratorial move to cover up administrative and fiscal failures.
"They are raising the caste census issue now only to shift focus from the tragic stampede incident that shocked Karnataka. It’s not social justice—it’s political trickery," said Vijayendra.
CM’s Delhi Visit and Finance Commission Remarks Draw Fire
Vijayendra welcomed Siddaramaiah’s participation in the 16th Finance Commission meeting in New Delhi but questioned the intentions behind his statements at the Centre.
“One day he sits in Delhi, attends a Central meeting, and raises financial issues—but the next day, he slanders the Centre in the media. What exactly is his role? Is he the CM of Karnataka or a Congress spokesperson?” Vijayendra asked.
He alleged that the Chief Minister is misleading the public by quoting incomplete figures.
"Siddaramaiah says Karnataka gives ₹100 and receives only ₹13 in return. That’s just half the truth. The real issue is that the state fails to properly utilize the funds it already receives," he said.
He also accused the state government of cutting down Centre-sponsored schemes and mismanaging funds related to the guarantee schemes promised by the Congress during elections.
“Caste Census — Congress’s Delayed Realisation”
Criticising the timing and intent of the caste census revival, Vijayendra pointed out that despite promising to implement the Kantaraju report months ago, the government failed to place it in any of the last 4-5 cabinet meetings.
“Three months ago, Siddaramaiah said the report would be discussed in the next cabinet. What happened after that? Nothing. Ministers like D.K. Shivakumar also opposed it back then. Now, suddenly, they've become ‘enlightened’? Clearly, it’s just an attempt to deflect heat,” he remarked.
He added that there are constitutional doubts over whether states have the authority to conduct caste census independently when the Centre has already announced a national population and caste census.
Accuses Congress Govt of Targeting Hindus, BJP Workers
In a fiery conclusion, Vijayendra also targeted the Siddaramaiah-led government for creating a “communal suppression team” in Dakshina Kannada, claiming it is part of a strategy to intimidate BJP cadres and Hindu leaders.
“We met the District Magistrate, SP and Commissioner. This so-called ‘suppression team’ is nothing but a tool to harass BJP workers and stifle voices. We will not be cowed down by this vendetta politics,” he warned.
Vijayendra affirmed that the BJP would stand firm and confront what he described as an “oppressive strategy” by the Congress-led government.
