Eyewitness Hearings Scheduled for June 13 as Bengaluru District Commissioner Vows Thorough Investigation into Negligence and Lapses

Bengaluru: In the wake of the tragic Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede, Bengaluru District Commissioner (DC) Jagadish has stepped up the magisterial inquiry into the incident, which claimed multiple lives and triggered massive public outrage. The DC confirmed that notices have been issued to key officials from the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), DNA Entertainment Networks, and the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team management.

"We are preparing to record the statements of eyewitnesses who were present during the stampede. Those with information have been asked to appear in person and share their account of events," said DC Jagadish, speaking to reporters earlier today.

Eyewitness Hearings Set for June 13

The DC’s office has scheduled a public hearing on June 13, where eyewitnesses and victims will record their testimonies. The goal is to reconstruct the sequence of events, identify the root causes of the stampede, and establish who was responsible for the security and crowd management lapses.

"This is not just a formality. We are looking into the specific circumstances that led to the tragedy, the level of preparedness, and the accountability of each stakeholder," the DC added.

Officials Under the Scanner

As part of the probe, official notices have already been served to:

  • Officials from KSCA (Karnataka State Cricket Association)

  • DNA Entertainment Networks (event management firm)

  • Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team officials

This move is seen as a major step toward fixing responsibility and ensuring such a catastrophic failure does not repeat at any future public event.

Full-Scale Inquiry Into Systemic Negligence

The inquiry, led by DC Jagadish, aims to uncover:

  • Lapses in crowd control protocols

  • Breakdown of communication and emergency response

  • Violations of safety regulations and event licensing terms

The DC has assured the public that no official, organisation, or stakeholder will be spared if found guilty of negligence or dereliction of duty.

"We are not only identifying the responsible parties but also submitting a full report that will recommend criminal or administrative action where necessary," Jagadish said.

The Chinnaswamy stampede has stirred statewide demand for accountability, especially after visuals of chaos and overcrowding surfaced on social media. With the magisterial inquiry gaining momentum, all eyes are now on the June 13 hearings, which could be pivotal in determining the legal and administrative fallout of the tragedy.
