Pants were found alongside a 5.6-ft skeleton in the Begur apartment's rainwater borewell; police began a probe into potential missing persons or a construction mishap

Bengaluru: A human skeleton was discovered in a rainwater borewell inside a private apartment complex under Begur Police Station limits, sending shockwaves across the locality and raising serious questions about a potential past crime or tragic oversight.

According to police sources, the discovery was made two days ago while the borewell was being cleaned. Residents of the apartment, upon noticing skeletal remains along with a pair of pants, immediately informed the authorities.

We received information about skeletal remains inside a borewell. Our team reached the location, recovered the remains, and sent them to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further examination,❞ confirmed a police officer from Begur PS.

Clues and Questions: Who Was This Person?

Initial forensic estimations suggest that the skeleton is approximately 5.6 feet tall. However, critical information such as the gender, age, and approximate time of death is yet to be determined.

The FSL report will confirm whether the skeleton belongs to a male or female, the age at the time of death, and possibly how long the body has been inside the borewell,❞ added the official.

The Begur police have registered a case and are now investigating from two angles:

  • Whether any resident went missing in the past.

  • Whether the remains could belong to a labourer or individual who went missing during the apartment’s construction.

Mystery Deepens: Residents in Shock

The bizarre and grim discovery has deeply disturbed the apartment residents. No missing complaints matching this description have surfaced yet, making it even more puzzling for the investigators.

Was this a forgotten tragedy or a hidden crime? A senior officer said off-record that the skeleton’s presence in a borewell that possibly hadn’t been cleaned for years makes it even more suspicious.

Awaiting FSL Report: Key to Unlock the Case

The case’s breakthrough hinges on the FSL report, which will shed light on the identity, cause of death, and timeline. Until then, police are also scanning past missing person records, builder documents, and apartment construction details.
