Chennai Police Detain Actor After Interrogation; Sources Claim Drug Purchase from Ghanaian Peddler Caught With 11g Cocaine
Chennai: In a development that has shocked the Tamil film industry, actor Srikanth was arrested by Greater Chennai Police on Monday in connection with a cocaine-related drug case, according to police sources.
The arrest follows a series of interrogations based on statements given by an accused in a previous narcotics case, linking the actor directly to the purchase of drugs.
The Cocaine Trail: Actor Allegedly Bought Drugs From Ghanaian Dealer
The case traces back to last week, when Nungambakkam police arrested a Ghanaian national named John and recovered 11 grams of cocaine from him. During the investigation, John reportedly named Srikanth as one of the buyers of the narcotics.
“Based on the accused's statement, Srikanth was brought in for questioning. Evidence points to a direct purchase of cocaine,” a senior police source said.
However, as of now, the police have not issued an official public statement confirming the charges or revealing further details about the investigation.
Srikanth’s Film Legacy: From Debut to Stardom
Srikanth made his Tamil film debut in 2002 with the romantic drama Roja Kootam, and quickly rose to fame with hits like:
-
April Madhathil (2002)
-
Parthiban Kanavu (2003)
-
Oru Naal Oru Kanavu (2005)
-
Poo (2008)
-
Nanban (2012)
The actor, known for his boy-next-door image and romantic roles, had recently taken a step back from mainstream cinema but continued to be a recognisable face in South Indian films.
The arrest has stirred concern across the Tamil entertainment industry, with many awaiting clarity on the extent of Srikanth’s involvement and potential legal consequences. More updates are expected once the police make an official statement.
