Home Minister Parameshwar responds, says police will act if a complaint is filed

Bengaluru: The controversy surrounding the Renukaswamy murder case has taken a new turn as actress and former MP Ramya faces online abuse for speaking out in support of the victim’s family. A social media war is currently raging between Darshan's fans and Ramya, with the latter alleging obscene and threatening messages from fan groups.

Ramya, who had demanded justice for the family of the deceased, has accused a section of Darshan’s fanbase of launching a vulgar and intimidating online campaign against her. She has also stated that she is ready to file a formal police complaint.

“Darshan fans should not stoop to this level. I have been receiving obscene messages for supporting the deceased’s family. I am ready to file a complaint,”
said Ramya, speaking to media platforms and in a series of social media posts.

Home Minister Parameshwar Breaks Silence on Online Abuse Against Ramya

Reacting to the controversy, Home Minister G. Parameshwar addressed the issue while speaking to reporters in Bengaluru. He assured that the government and police will take necessary legal action once a complaint is filed.

“Actress Ramya should first file a complaint regarding the comments made by actor Darshan’s fans. Once that happens, the police will take appropriate action. Cybercrime is a sensitive matter, and such abusive content will be blocked. But unless a complaint is filed, we cannot proceed.”
said Parameshwar.

He further emphasised that while suo motu (automatic) cases can be filed, having an official complaint strengthens the action process.

“Someone should file a complaint. Even without a complaint, a suo motu case may sometimes be taken up. But if a formal complaint is filed, the police will take it seriously. There is no need for separate government direction; the jurisdictional police can act on their own,”
He added.

Background: Renukaswamy Murder Case and Public Outrage

The Renukaswamy murder case, in which actor Darshan has been named as a key accused, has shocked fans and the film fraternity across Karnataka. Ramya was among the few public personalities to openly demand a fair and thorough investigation, leading to sharp backlash from some fan groups.

Her call for justice has ignited tensions online, with debates over celebrity influence, freedom of speech, and cyber harassment becoming central to the issue.

Legal and Public Reactions Awaited

So far, no official FIR has been lodged by Ramya. However, cybercrime authorities are reportedly monitoring the online content, and any offensive or threatening material may trigger automatic legal scrutiny under the IT Act and other provisions.

Observers say this case could set an example for handling digital abuse and fan-based cyberbullying, especially when it targets public figures expressing independent views.
