Surgeon's statement contradicts FIR; four bullet wounds found on Radhika’s chest, despite FIR claiming three shots from behind by father Deepak Yadav
Gurugram – The investigation into the murder of 25-year-old national-level tennis player Radhika Yadav has taken a dramatic turn after the post-mortem report contradicted key claims made in the FIR, raising serious doubts about the sequence of events and the confession of her father and accused, Deepak Yadav.
According to a report, Deepak Mathur, a surgeon at the Gurgaon Government Hospital, confirmed that Radhika had sustained four bullet wounds to the chest, not three gunshots to the back as mentioned in the First Information Report.
“The bullets entered from the front and all four have been removed and sent for forensic examination,” said Dr. Mathur, speaking to the media over the phone.
FIR Claims Now Under Scrutiny
The FIR was filed based on a complaint by Radhika’s uncle, Kuldeep Yadav, and stated that Deepak Yadav fired three rounds from behind using his licensed .32 bore revolver. The new forensic detail significantly undermines the narrative provided in the FIR and raises questions about whether the shooting was frontal and premeditated.
“The inconsistency between the post-mortem findings and the FIR version is a major point of concern,” a senior police official acknowledged on condition of anonymity.
The firearm used in the shooting, a licensed .32 bore revolver, was reportedly found lying in the drawing room of the house.
Timeline of the Incident
The incident took place around 10:30 AM on Thursday in Sector 57, Gurugram, where the Yadav family resides in a two-storey house. Kuldeep Yadav, who lives on the ground floor, said he heard gunshots and rushed upstairs, where he found Radhika lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen.
“I ran to the first floor and saw her collapsed in the kitchen. She was bleeding heavily. The revolver was in the drawing room,” Kuldeep told police during his statement.
Confession Adds Complexity
Police had earlier claimed that Deepak Yadav confessed to the crime, saying he shot his daughter after she taunted him for being financially dependent on her. However, the confession's credibility is now being questioned in light of the medical findings.
The accused was taken into one-day custody on Friday for further interrogation. Investigators are expected to cross-examine his initial statement and revisit the ballistics and angle of fire to reconcile the discrepancies.
“We are re-examining the evidence in light of the medical report. All angles, including possible fabrication or inconsistencies in the confession, are being explored,” the investigating officer said.
A Family Tragedy Under Public Eye
Radhika Yadav was a rising star in Indian tennis circles, and her death has sparked widespread shock and grief in the sports community. The emerging discrepancies between forensic evidence and the FIR are expected to intensify public interest and scrutiny.
Legal experts say that if the confession does not align with forensic and ballistic findings, it could complicate the prosecution's narrative and necessitate a reconstruction of the crime scene.
