MLAs demand respect for the assembly as a viral video forces the minister to initiate disciplinary action against DCF Praveen

Raichur: A shocking incident has surfaced from Raichur where a video showing Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF) Praveen allegedly playing rummy on his mobile phone during a crucial progress review meeting has gone viral, triggering widespread criticism and prompting a swift governmental response.

The KDP (Karnataka Development Programme) meeting was being conducted on Friday at the Zilla Panchayat Office Hall, attended by elected MLAs and senior district-level officials. While discussions on critical developmental issues were ongoing, DCF Praveen was seen casually engrossed in a rummy game on his smartphone.

“The official was spotted playing rummy right in the middle of the hall while elected representatives were addressing key issues. This isn’t mere negligence—it’s disrespect to democratic processes,” said a senior official under anonymity.

The incident was caught on camera by an attendee and has since gone viral on various social media platforms, drawing widespread public outrage.

As soon as the footage was brought to the attention of Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil, he took immediate action. The minister instructed that the officer be removed from the meeting hall and directed the District Collector to write a formal letter to the Principal Secretary of the Forest Department, recommending strict disciplinary action.

“This is unacceptable behaviour from a senior officer. I have ordered the District Magistrate to submit a report to the government and ensured that appropriate action will be taken,” said Minister Dr. Sharan Prakash Patil.

The episode didn’t just end with the officer’s removal. Several district MLAs, visibly upset, criticised the district in-charge minister and questioned the seriousness of both officials and the administration.

“At least maintain the respect of the MLAs,” one MLA was heard saying in the background of the viral video.
“You are not serious, the officials are not serious. Then how will people take governance seriously?” said another legislator.

The incident left the minister embarrassed as the MLAs were speaking in a stern and unified tone, demanding better accountability and respect for institutional proceedings.

Following the chain of events, Minister Patil has directed that a formal notice be issued to the DCF and that the District Magistrate Nitish K. submit a detailed report to the state government. Sources indicate that the Principal Secretary of the Forest Department has already been alerted, and internal inquiry mechanisms are now in motion.

This incident has reignited discussions about bureaucratic accountability and the need for discipline among government servants, especially during official proceedings where public interest is central.

The Forest Department is yet to release an official statement. Meanwhile, administrative circles across the state are abuzz with this development, marking it as a cautionary tale for officials attending sensitive meetings.
