Brave Survivor's Testimony Secures Conviction in Prajwal Revanna Rape Case, Says ADGP B.K. Singh

CID praises courageous victim and dedicated women officers in landmark SIT-led investigation; probe into remaining cases continues

Bengaluru: In a major breakthrough in the Prajwal Revanna rape case, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) B.K. Singh lauded the unflinching courage of the victim, stating her steadfast cooperation played a pivotal role in ensuring the conviction of the politically influential accused.

“Apart from the witnesses in the case, the victim woman stood firm like a rock with us and helped us. This ensured that the culprit was punished,” said ADGP B.K. Singh, addressing reporters at a press conference held at the CID office in Bengaluru on Saturday evening.

SIT Investigated Five Cases in Connection to Rape and Pen Drive Sharing

The State Government had appointed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe five cases linked to the sexual assault and unlawful distribution of explicit digital content involving Prajwal Revanna. One of the victims remained consistent throughout the trial, refusing to alter her testimony despite sustained cross-examination.

The woman was questioned for three consecutive days. Prajwal Revanna’s defense lawyer interrogated her for two days and eight hours, yet she narrated the traumatic incident before the judge without fear.

Quote Box:
"The victim was not financially and socially powerful. The perpetrator had political influence. Despite this, she stood courageously with the prosecution for a year, demanding justice. Some people even conspired to delay the verdict,” – ADGP B.K. Singh

Women Officers Played a Central Role in Investigation

Commending the role of law enforcement, Singh highlighted the tireless efforts of a mostly women-led investigative team. Officers including Seema Latkar, Suman D. Pannekar, and N. Shobha, Inspector of the Bangalore East Division Women’s Police Station, were instrumental in bringing the case to court.

The Investigating Officer (IO), Shobha, led the probe, while Senior Officer Suman oversaw operations. Officer Mamata made a significant contribution by assisting in both the investigation and court proceedings. “From arrest to trial, she was a key player,” Singh noted.

Three Cases with CID Cyber Crime, Two in Karnataka Districts

Singh confirmed that three cases were registered at the CID Cyber Crime Station, while one each was filed in Holenarasipura (Hassan District) and K.R. Nagar Police Station (Mysore). A verdict has been delivered in one case, and the remaining four are still under investigation.

“The case was handed over to us four years after the incident,” Singh said. “We were able to secure a conviction by providing substantial evidence. The court has upheld our charge sheet, and we are proud of our work.”

Conviction Despite No Political Pressure

Rejecting any notion of political interference, ADGP Singh emphasised the impartial nature of the investigation:
“There was no political pressure. We performed our duties as honest government officials.”

100+ Digital Devices Seized; More Arrests Likely in Pen Drive Case

Over 100 laptops, mobile phones, and pen drives were seized during the investigation. Singh confirmed that the charge sheet in the pen drive distribution case will be filed within two weeks. “You will know who the accused are,” he stated.

More Survivors, But No Formal Complaints Yet

The SIT has credible information suggesting that Prajwal Revanna may have sexually assaulted more women, but no additional victims have come forward to file formal complaints, Singh concluded.
