11 more killed in Israeli airstrikes and gunfire; Chaos surrounds aid distribution centres in conflict-hit Gaza
Gaza: The United Nations human rights office has raised serious concerns about the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, revealing that at least 1,373 Palestinians have died of starvation between May and July 2025, many of them killed while searching for food near aid distribution points.
“The majority of these killings were carried out by the Israeli military,” the UN office said in a damning statement on Friday.
Out of the total starvation-related deaths, 859 occurred near US- and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) aid centers, and 514 were recorded along food convoy routes. The UN blames repeated attacks and restricted humanitarian access for exacerbating the crisis.
Israeli shelling kills 11, including two near aid center
Gaza’s Civil Defense Department reported that 11 Palestinians were killed on Friday in Israeli airstrikes and gunfire, adding to the rising civilian toll.
Two of the victims were reportedly shot while waiting near a GHF aid distribution point, according to Civil Defence spokesperson Mahmoud Bassal.

Five people were killed in an Israeli strike near Khan Younis.

Four were killed when a vehicle was targeted in Deir el-Balah, central Gaza.

Two more died, and over 70 were injured, near an aid centre between Khan Younis and Rafah.
The Israeli military has not commented on these reports at the time of writing.
Chaos and denial surround aid centres
Daily scenes of desperation are unfolding across Gaza, with thousands of residents queuing at aid centres, including the four run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). However, these locations have become increasingly volatile, with frequent shootings and shelling reported during aid distributions.
Despite eyewitness reports and UN findings, the GHF has denied that any fatal shootings have occurred near its centres, further deepening mistrust among local residents.
"Every day is a risk. People go for food but return with blood," said a Gaza resident waiting at a centre in Khan Younis.
Worsening humanitarian disaster
The UN has called for immediate and unimpeded humanitarian access to all parts of Gaza and has urged Israel to ensure the protection of civilians and aid workers.
As blockades, targeted attacks, and logistical failures continue to hamper aid delivery, starvation and civilian deaths are rising alarmingly, triggering global concern and condemnation.
