New Delhi : In the latest development in the ongoing discussions between farmers' leaders and the central government, a proposal was put forth yesterday. The central government proposed the enactment of a Minimum Support Price (MSP) guarantee law specifically for crops such as Urad dal, maize, and cotton.
Under this proposal, farmers would be required to enter into a five-year agreement with the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and the Cotton Corporation of India (CCI). Piyush Goyal, Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha, speaking on behalf of the central government, emphasized that this scheme would be rolled out in phases. He further stated that if the farmers consent to the proposal, a detailed discussion would ensue.
This move by the central government marks a significant step in addressing the longstanding demands of farmers regarding MSP assurance for key agricultural commodities. The proposal aims to provide stability and security to farmers by guaranteeing a minimum price for their produce, thereby safeguarding their livelihoods amidst fluctuating market conditions.
The response of farmers' unions and stakeholders to this proposal is eagerly awaited as discussions between the two parties continue in pursuit of a resolution.
