Bengaluru: The Central government, which had promised to give Minimum Support Prices and fulfill the demands of farmers when they fought on a large scale in 2020, has broken its word today and is trying to suppress the farmers' struggle. Said Mohan Dasari, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state secretary, while addressing the protest at Freedom Park on Monday to support the farmers' struggle and condemn the central government's repressive policy.
Dasari highlighted that the ongoing protests at the Punjab-Haryana border are not just for the benefit of those regions but for farmers across the country. He emphasized the demand for a minimum support price (MSP), as recommended by the Swaminathan Commission report. Despite honoring Dr. M.S. Swaminathan with the Bharat Ratna, Dasari lamented that the central government has failed to implement the commission's recommendations.
AAP Bengaluru City Unit President Satish Kumar stated that two years ago, farmers successfully protested in Delhi, leading to the withdrawal of the Black Farming Acts. However, these acts remain in force in many states, including Karnataka, posing future challenges for farmers.
He also criticized the BJP for mocking farmers' protests in Punjab and Haryana, stating that farmers' attire or mode of transportation should not diminish the legitimacy of their grievances. He accused the government of attempting to undermine the collective struggle of over 200 agricultural organizations and labeled it as anti-farmer.
Jagadish V Sadam, AAP's state Media Incharge, along with State Vice President Rudrayya Navali Hiremath., Anil Nachappa, Media Incharge, and others were present.
