Bengaluru: The High Court of Karnataka has granted a stay against the FIR filed against Former Deputy Chief Minister K. S. Eshwarappa. This decision follows Eshwarappa's call for amendments to the law regarding discussions on the division of the country.
A bench led by Justice Krishna S. Dixit heard the petition filed by K. S. Eshwarappa to quash the FIR and the trial court's inquiry into the matter.
During the trial, justices expressed concerns over Eshwarappa's language and questioned the decorum of political leaders. They emphasized the importance of using respectful language, especially considering Karnataka's diverse population.
The case originated from a complaint filed by Hanumanthappa, a resident of Davangere, resulting in the FIR being registered by the Davangere Extension Police Station.
The controversy escalated when Eshwarappa made remarks at an event, calling for legal action against individuals he referred to as "traitors" - D K Suresh and Vinay Kulkarni, who allegedly advocate for the separation of South India.
In response to Eshwarappa's statement, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced that legal action would be taken against the BJP leader.
This development underscores the significance of responsible rhetoric among political leaders and the judiciary's role in upholding civility in public discourse.
