Bengaluru : In a move, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has announced an increase in accident relief compensation to Rs. 10 lakh for the first time. The decision was made to offer greater financial assistance to the dependents of accident victims.
Ramalinga Reddy, Minister of Transport of Karnataka, and S R Srinivas, MLA and Chairman of KSRTC, presided over the issuance of Rs. 10 lakh accident relief to the dependent of a passenger who tragically lost his life in a bus accident.
Previously, the corporation provided accident compensation of Rs. 3 lakh to the dependents of passengers involved in accidents while traveling in KSRTC buses. However, recognizing the need for more substantial support, the relief amount was increased to Rs. 10 lakh, effective from January 1.
The incident occurred on February 04 when bus no KA-13-F-2261 of Channarayapatna Depot, Hassan Division, met with an accident near Bhage, Sakleshpur, resulting in the unfortunate demise of 34-year-old passenger G N Amruth.
Today, the father of the deceased, G D Nagaraj, received Rs. 10 lakh as compensation relief from the corporation. Minister Ramalinga Reddy expressed his condolences, acknowledging the immense loss faced by families due to accidents. He emphasized the corporation's commitment to taking responsibility and supporting victims' families through such schemes. Additionally, the corporation recently provided thermal flasks to night shift drivers for storing coffee, tea, or hot water, further ensuring their well-being.
Chairman S R Srinivas highlighted the corporation's ongoing efforts to prevent accidents and offered condolences to the bereaved families. V Anbukumar, IAS, Managing Director, KSRTC, along with other officials and staff, were present during the event.
