Shorapur MLA's Demise Leaves Political Void, Community Mourns Loss


Bengaluru: Shorapur Congress MLA Raja Venkatappa Nayaka, from Yadgir district, aged 67, succumbed to a heart attack on Sunday. He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Manipal Hospital in Bengaluru.

Raja Venkatappa Nayaka, a prominent figure in Shorapur politics, served as the Indian National Congress (INC) candidate from the Shorapur constituency during the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections. Described as a dedicated social worker, Nayaka's educational background indicated a 12th-grade qualification, according to the election affidavit filed with the Election Commission.

In a noteworthy disclosure, Nayaka's election affidavit revealed the existence of six criminal cases registered against him. Despite these challenges, Nayaka contested against other candidates in the Shorapur constituency during the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections.

Competing alongside Nayaka were candidates such as Narasimhanayak (Rajugouda) from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), R Manjunath Nayak from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Shravanakumar Nayak from the Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS), as well as independent candidates including Ashok Laxman, Venkatappa Nayak Chandrashekhar Nayak, and Shashikumar.

Raja Venkatappa Nayaka's sudden demise has left a void in Shorapur's political landscape, prompting expressions of condolences and reflection on his contributions to the community.
