Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized the importance of protecting the Constitution, stating, “If the Constitution is protected, we will all survive; otherwise, we will be in danger.” He made these remarks during his address at the Constitution and National Unity Conference, organized by the Social Welfare Department at the Palace Grounds in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Quoting Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, Siddaramaiah emphasized, “We are the rightful Masters of the Constitution. Not to overthrow the Constitution, but to overthrow those who are against the Constitution.”
During his speech, Siddaramaiah highlighted two negative narratives surrounding the Constitution. One narrative suggests that the Constitution only benefits Dalits, while the other claims it is not in line with the socio-economic situation. He stressed that these negative narratives are spread by those opposing the Constitution, despite its explicit principles of freedom, equality, and fraternity.
Siddaramaiah pointed out that such propaganda against the Constitution has persisted since its inception on January 26, 1950, and emphasized the importance of not tolerating it.
To commemorate the adoption of the Constitution, a Constitution awareness Jatha has been organized in the state since January 26 this year. This initiative aims to educate people about the preamble and the aspirations of the Constitution, with the Jatha traveling through 31 districts for this purpose.
