Mukhyamantri Chandru, the AAP State President, applauds the landmark decision.
Bengaluru: AAP Corporator Kuldeep Kumar has been elected as the Mayor of Chandigarh, marking a significant victory for democracy, stated Mukhyamantri Chandru, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) state president, while addressing the media in the city today, following the Supreme Court's verdict on the Chandigarh mayoral election.
Chandru hailed the Supreme Court's ruling as not only a triumph for the residents of Chandigarh but also for India as a whole, emphasizing its importance in upholding democratic principles. He called the verdict historic, asserting that it represents a victory for all Indians who believe in the constitution and the democratic system.
Expressing concern over election irregularities, Chandru called for an investigation into the individuals behind Election Officer Anil Masih, who was found guilty of tampering with 8 ballot papers. He demanded accountability for those responsible, stating that individuals like Masih are mere pawns in a larger scheme.
Commenting on Kumar's victory, Chandru asserted that truth has prevailed and democracy has been safeguarded against autocratic forces seeking to undermine electoral integrity. He criticized the alleged involvement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in orchestrating election malpractices, portraying it as a threat to democracy.
Furthermore, Chandru raised questions about the integrity of the electoral process in light of recent controversies, including the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) and electoral bonds. He emphasized the need for judicial intervention to ensure the integrity of electoral democracy and safeguard fundamental rights.
The recent Supreme Court ruling on electoral bonds, declaring them unconstitutional, is seen as a crucial move towards transparency and accountability in political financing, aligning with constitutional principles of free speech and information. Chandru emphasized the significance of judicial oversight in maintaining electoral democracy's core values and ensuring fair elections.
