Bengaluru: Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) was honored with a special jury award for its Electric Bus Branding initiative, named "Astra." The Union of State Road Transport Organizations (ASRTU), comprising 62 state road transport organizations across India, recognized this initiative.
ASRTU operates under the directives of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, established on 13-08-1965.
BMTC has been proactive in branding public transport, extending from regular services to Vayu Vajra, and now, with the introduction of electric buses. The "Astra" branding aims to attract new passengers to the city's bus system by offering a comfortable, reliable, and safe journey experience.
To distinguish its electric buses, BMTC chose the unique name "Astra," derived from Sanskrit, reflecting the organization's commitment to innovation. These buses feature distinctive purple paint and are adorned with differently colored electrical cable plugs, highlighting their electric nature.
