Bengaluru: In an adjustment to the gun deposit protocol before elections, the Bengaluru City Police Department has restructured the regulations, exempting certain individuals from the mandate to surrender firearms during election periods.
Traditionally, citizens, politicians, influential figures, and individuals with criminal affiliations were obliged to surrender their guns, rifles, and similar firearms at the police station corresponding to their residence. These weapons would be returned post the election cycle. However, the recent alteration in the directive introduces a delineation of four distinct categories, thereby narrowing down the scope of individuals required to comply with the deposit mandate.
Outlined below are the four categories:
1. Individuals Out on Bail
2. Individuals with Criminal Records (Rowdy Sheeters)
3. Individuals Previously Involved in Riots, Particularly During Elections
4. License Holders Engaged in Election-Related Criminal Activities
Individuals falling within the aforementioned categories are mandated to promptly deposit their firearms. Conversely, the department has stipulated that individuals not meeting these criteria are not obligated to surrender their guns.
