Bengaluru: The Akhila Karnataka Hindu Temples' Priests, Agamikas, and Upadhivantas Federation convened a large gathering of priests to discuss the future of Karnataka's Muzrai Department on Tuesday. The attendees strongly advocated for Muzrai Minister,Ramalinga Reddy to retain his position for at least another 10 years, praising his work in the upliftment of temples and their caretakers.
The Federation, representing priests from categories A, B, and C temples across Karnataka, highlighted the need for continuity in the Muzrai Department, citing Reddy’s reforms aimed at improving religious, cultural, and social conditions. Priests gathered from various districts expressed concern that any changes to the leadership could disrupt the progress made under Reddy’s tenure.
A key issue raised was the opposition to the privatization of Muzrai temples. Priests asserted that private entities prioritize commercial interests over religious service and urged the government to maintain control of temple administration. They also highlighted the urgency of securing approval for a pending bill, which would provide financial support to over 34,000 category C temples and benefit priests across the state.
The priests called on all political parties, particularly the BJP, to support the bill and refrain from politicizing religious matters. They expressed hope that the Governor will approve the bill soon, alleviating the concerns of thousands of priests awaiting its passage.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, Home Minister G. Parameshwara, and various leaders from the Federation.
