Bengaluru: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) has intensified efforts to curb ticketless travel in and around Bangalore City. In May 2024, inspections were conducted on 19,125 bus trips, resulting in 4,064 passengers being penalized for traveling without tickets. A total penalty of ₹8,25,210 was collected.
Additionally, 1,092 cases were booked against conductors for dereliction of duty. Action was also taken against 501 male passengers occupying seats reserved for female passengers, leading to fines totaling ₹50,100, as per Karnataka Motor Vehicles Rules 94 and Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
In summary, BMTC penalized 4,565 passengers and collected ₹8,75,310 in penalties during May 2024. BMTC advises all passengers to purchase tickets or opt for passes to avoid penalties and support the improvement of services. Passengers are also urged to respect seating arrangements for female passengers.
