Bengaluru: The
incidence of dengue fever is rapidly escalating in Bengaluru, with concerns
mounting as the Greater Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner,
Tushar Girinath, himself diagnosed with the disease. Currently on a four-day
leave, Commissioner Girinath is undergoing treatment at home and is reported to
be recovering.
From January
to June 22 this year, Karnataka has reported a total of 5187 dengue cases, with
Bengaluru alone registering 1230 cases under BBMP's jurisdiction. Statewide,
3957 individuals tested positive for dengue out of 37144 blood samples
collected.
Bengaluru
leads the state in dengue cases, followed by Haveri with 389 cases. Mysore
reported 358 cases, Chikkamagaluru 346, and Kalaburagi 153 cases. Conversely,
Yadagiri recorded the lowest number with only 4 cases.
