Demand Talks Promised by Government Post-Elections

Bengaluru: Farmers at the Channarayapatna dharna site marked 800 days of their indefinite sit-in protest against land acquisition with a gathering where important decisions were made.

The farmers, who had initially planned to boycott the polls during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, were appealed to by the district administration and the district in-charge minister to vote. They were promised a platform for talks with the government post-elections and justice for the farmers. However, despite the elections being over and the government formed at the Centre, talks have not been initiated as promised.

In a meeting held on Thursday, farmers expressed their dissatisfaction with the district administration and government ministers for failing to facilitate the promised talks. Karalli Srinivas, speaking on behalf of the farmers, highlighted that the Deputy Commissioner had assured to visit the dharna site for discussions with the government if the people boycotted the elections.

The protest continues as farmers demand the fulfillment of the commitments made by the authorities, emphasizing the need for dialogue and resolution regarding the issues of land acquisition.
