Over 1,200 Unauthorized Installations Removed Since June, DCM Urges Vigilance
Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has escalated its efforts to rid Bengaluru of illegal flexes and banners, aiming to restore the cityscape from the clutter of unauthorized advertisements.
Since the
commencement of June, BBMP officials have eliminated a remarkable 1,259 such
unauthorized installations, signifying a robust crackdown on visual pollution.
This
initiative responds to persistent grievances from residents and directives from
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who urged BBMP authorities to combat the
rampant proliferation of flexes and banners. Despite earlier notices from the
High Court, unauthorized installations persisted, prompting decisive action
from the civic body.
Between June
1 and 12, BBMP's zonal teams conducted eviction drives across the city, removing flexes, banners, LED boards, and hoardings from various zones,
including East, West, South, Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Dasarahalli, Mahadevapura,
Yelahanka, and Bommanahalli.
In tandem
with the removal drive, BBMP officials have filed 27 complaints with local
police stations, resulting in the lodging of 12 First Information Reports
(FIRs) against offenders engaged in illegal installations. Deputy Chief
Minister D.K. Shivakumar has also cautioned Assistant Revenue Officers,
stressing potential disciplinary measures if unauthorized flexes and banners
are discovered within their jurisdiction.
The public
is urged to contribute to this endeavor by reporting any remaining unauthorized
flexes or banners. Complaints can be lodged by dialing the BBMP helpline at
1533 or by sending photographs or videos, along with the address, to the BBMP
advertisement department via WhatsApp at 9480683939.
