Political Dynamics Shift as HDK Clarifies Son's Candidacy Status
Bengaluru: In a significant development ahead
of the Channapatna Assembly by-election, former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy
has confirmed that his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy will not contest, stirring fresh
speculation on potential candidates.
Speaking at
a Bamul event in Byrapattana village on Sunday, Channapattana taluk,
Kumaraswamy addressed concerns about Nikhil's electoral prospects, stating,
"I understand Nikhil's disappointment after his previous defeats."
This statement effectively closes the door on Nikhil's participation in the
upcoming polls.
The
announcement has sparked discussions within the JD(S) ranks, with CP Yogeshwar
emerging as a potential candidate. Kumaraswamy expressed confidence in the
party's unity, emphasizing the goal of securing victory irrespective of the
NDA's candidate choice.
During his
speech, Kumaraswamy also seized the opportunity to appeal to the Prime Minister
for increased incentives for milk producers nationwide, proposing an additional
Rs 2-3 per liter support to benefit farmers across India. He indirectly
criticized local leaders, urging voters to question those who make promises
without fulfilling them, particularly highlighting delays in disbursing Rs 61
crore in milk incentives to farmers in Channapatna taluk.
The event was attended by Legislative Council member CP Yogeshwar, Bamul director Jayamuthu, and several other prominent figures, underscoring the political significance of Kumaraswamy's statement.
