Employees Protest Bangalore RMS Office Relocation, Demand Facilities Assurance
Bengaluru: The relocation of the Bengaluru City Railway Mail Service (RMS) office, operational for nearly 45 years, has stirred significant unrest among employees. Organized by the All India RMS and MMS Employees Association on Friday, a protest commenced at 9:00 am to voice concerns over the lack of basic facilities provided at the new locations.
The RMS
office has played a crucial role in efficiently sorting and dispatching
overnight mails to connected post offices early each morning, a process that
benefited both operations and employees, particularly women. However, with
units now being shifted to disparate areas, including the remote PPC Peenya for
the Bangalore Parcel Hub, the situation has become alarming for the workforce.
Employees are demanding an immediate halt to further relocations, urging
authorities to ensure all transferred units receive essential amenities. They
also emphasize the need to maintain previous working hours and cordial
relations with employee organizations.
N. M.
Nagaraju and N. E. Govindaraju from the Karnataka Zonal branch of the
association articulated these demands. They, along with Federal Council members
C. Bhaskar and GN Venkatesh, handed over a memorandum outlining these concerns
to the Senior Superintendent of Railway Mail Service.
The
association has warned of escalating their protests if these critical issues
are not promptly addressed, underscoring their commitment to preserving
workplace standards and operational efficiency at the Bangalore City RMS
office.
