Communities and Leaders Urge Swift Action to Ease Traffic Woes
Bengaluru: The completion of Bengaluru's Silk Board flyover, intended to alleviate traffic congestion, has brought little relief to commuters as it remains closed, prompting strong demands from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for its immediate opening. Commuters, particularly those heading towards Electronic City and Madiwala from south Bangalore, continue to endure extensive delays despite the flyover's recent completion.
Ashok Mrintyunjaya, AAP's Bengaluru City Organizing Secretary, voiced frustration on Monday over the prolonged closure, highlighting the inconvenience faced by residents and the wastage of public resources. Construction of the flyover, which began in 2018 with an initial completion target for 2019, has been marred by delays, exacerbating traffic problems significantly.
AAP leaders, including Ashok, emphasized the urgent need to open the flyover, citing concerns from IT professionals and commuters who face lengthy delays at traffic signals near the closed structure. Veena, president of AAP's women's unit, stressed the impact on public safety, noting instances where ambulance services have been hindered due to traffic snarls around the area.
The party has called upon Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Bengaluru Urban Development Minister DK Shivakumar to intervene and expedite the opening of the Silk Board flyover within the week. They underscored that timely action is crucial to alleviate daily traffic woes and ensure smoother traffic flow in Bengaluru.
The protest against the delayed opening of the flyover garnered significant support from various party leaders and activists, reflecting widespread public concern and frustration over the ongoing issue.
