Bengaluru: With the One Time Relief Scheme (OTS) deadline fast approaching, Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has urged citizens to clear their pending property tax arrears before July 31. Addressing reporters at the BBMP headquarters, Nath emphasized that the scheme, designed to assist approximately 4 lakh defaulters in Bengaluru, has already benefited 80 thousand individuals who have settled their dues.
Nath highlighted the urgency for the remaining 3.20 lakh defaulters to take advantage of the OTS scheme, stressing that time is running out. For assistance regarding payment details and locations, he encouraged citizens to reach out to the corporation's toll-free helpline number 1533.
In addition to addressing financial matters, Nath turned attention to public health concerns, particularly the city's battle against dengue. He revealed that since January 2024, Bengaluru has reported a total of 3815 dengue cases, with a significant spike of 776 cases confirmed between July 1 and 6 alone. Nath underscored the severity of the situation, noting an average daily confirmation of 130 to 140 cases.
To combat the spread of dengue, over 3000 teams comprising health officers, Asha workers, ANMs, Link workers, and volunteers have been actively conducting house-to-house surveys across the city's 25 lakh households. These efforts include distributing informative pamphlets to raise awareness about dengue prevention measures.
Nath urged residents to cooperate by eliminating stagnant water sources in their surroundings, which serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes, particularly after heavy rains. He assured continued efforts through targeted mosquito control measures such as spraying and fogging in affected areas.
