Addressing
the gathering, Nath highlighted the necessity of a complete ban on single-use
plastics across the city. He urged officials to intensify awareness campaigns
targeting citizens and traders, promoting the use of cloth or paper bags
instead.
Nath also
stressed the importance of educating street vendors about the banned types of
plastics and encouraging the use of permissible alternatives.
As part of
the awareness rally, leaflets and cloth bags were distributed to street vendors
and shops, advocating the cessation of plastic bag usage. Nath further
distributed paper straws to vendors selling beverages, urging them to abstain
from plastic products.
During his
address, Nath urged the public to carry reusable bags from home or purchase
locally available cloth bags, thereby reducing reliance on plastic.
Highlighting
enforcement measures, Nath outlined a two-step approach: issuing warnings
initially to those found using banned plastics, followed by penalties for
repeat offenders. He underscored the detrimental impact of single-use plastics
on the environment, calling for collective action to eliminate their usage.
The event
was attended by Zonal Commissioner Snehal, Zonal Joint Commissioner Saroja, and
Superintendent Engineer Vishwanath from the Solid Waste Department, Health
