Pranav V H Clinches Gold, Veteran Coach Renshi Raman Ganesh Earns Bronze at the UWMAF & ICO World Championships

Bengaluru: A two-member team from Karnataka represented India at the prestigious United World Martial Arts Federation (UWMAF) and International Combat Organization (ICO) World Karate Championships held from 11th to 13th October 2024 at Kalbach Indoor Stadium in Frankfurt, Germany. The event marked a proud moment for Indian martial arts, particularly for Karnataka's sports community.

The team was led by veteran coach Renshi Raman Ganesh, a well-known figure in Bengaluru’s karate circuit, who competed in the +45 Veterans category Kata event (shadow boxing) and secured a bronze medal. Raman Ganesh has trained thousands of students across Karnataka and his accomplishment brings pride to the state’s karate community. He also serves as the General Secretary of the Sports Karate Association of Karnataka (SKAK) and Vice President of the All-India Karate-Do Federation.

Joining him was Pranav V H, a 16-year-old student from Jain College, VV Puram, who competed in the 16-17 years junior category Kata event and won a gold medal. Pranav was trained by Renshi Pushpa, a veteran lady coach from Bengaluru who has mentored over 1,000 girls in the state, alongside Deputy Chief Coach Sensei E.N. Ramya. Under their guidance, Pranav’s victory is seen as a major achievement not only for himself but also for the advancement of karate in Karnataka.

The team’s participation was supported by Kyoshi PR. Ramessh, an 8th Dan Black Belt holder and General Secretary of AIKF, and Dr. Vikram Kapoor, UWMAF Asia Head. The athletes’ success at the international level reflects the ongoing efforts to promote karate in India, a mission that has been supported by the All-India Karate-Do Federation for over 35 years. The Federation, which comprises 32 state units and recognized karate styles, has consistently brought international recognition to the country.

The success of the athletes is credited to the backing of their parents, schools, and the management of educational institutions, who played an integral role in enabling their participation at the global event

The Karnataka karate community expressed its gratitude to all who contributed to this achievement and urged media outlets to help spread awareness of the milestone. This recognition, they noted, will serve as a source of motivation for future athletes aiming to make their mark in karate.

The full list of participants and medal winners includes Mr. Pranav V H (Jain College, VV Puram) – Gold Medal in the 16-17 years Kata category, and Renshi Raman Ganesh – Bronze Medal in the Veterans Kata category.

This achievement is viewed as a significant step forward in promoting karate across India and serves as a source of encouragement for aspiring karatekas. The Federation looks forward to continued success at both national and international levels.
