Hubli: Karnataka state Transport Minister, Ramalinga Reddy, has directed the Managing Director of NWKRTC, Hubli, to conduct an immediate inquiry into a viral video showing a Driver-cum-Conductor of NWKRTC offering namaz by halting a running bus en route from Hubli to Haveri on the evening of April 29, 2025.
In a statement issued to NWKRTC authorities, the Minister highlighted that while every individual has the constitutional right to practice their religion, such practices must not interfere with official duties, especially in sensitive sectors such as public transport, where passenger safety and timely service are of utmost importance.
“The staff working in public service are bound by service rules and code of conduct,” the Minister stated. “It is objectionable to stop a running bus midway to perform religious rituals while passengers are on board.”
Shri Reddy has instructed the corporation to initiate disciplinary action against the staff if found guilty after the inquiry. He further directed officials to ensure that measures are implemented to avoid the recurrence of such incidents in the future.
The NWKRTC is expected to submit a detailed report following the completion of the inquiry.
