CERT-In Foils Major Digital Breach; Blockchain Upgrade & High-Security Servers on the Horizon

Bengaluru: A major cyberattack attempt targeting the online water connection application portal of the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) was thwarted in a swift countermeasure by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In). The attempted breach, which occurred on April 11, was detected early, enabling engineers to act promptly and prevent any potential compromise of the system.

According to BWSSB President K. Sudhakar, initial investigations indicate that no sensitive customer data was leaked during the incident. A formal complaint has been lodged with the cyber crime police for further investigation.

In response to the attack, BWSSB has announced plans to migrate its data infrastructure to high-security centralized servers and explore the integration of blockchain technology to bolster transparency and data integrity.

“Strict action will be taken against those who misuse public data. We are committed to ensuring the security and transparency of all digital platforms,” BWSSB’s statement assured.

The incident has reignited concerns over the cyber vulnerability of civic services, highlighting the growing need for advanced security frameworks in public utility platforms.
