CCB’s Women’s Protection Unit acts swiftly on tip-off, arrests two accused; Operation exposes dark underbelly of trafficking in Basaveshwara Nagar
Bengaluru: In a major breakthrough against human trafficking and exploitation, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Bengaluru Police on Saturday rescued four women who were allegedly being held against their will and forced into prostitution in a residential area of Basaveshwara Nagar.
The Women’s Protection Unit of the Crime Branch acted promptly after receiving specific intelligence on May 14 about suspicious activities in a rented house in the area. Acting without delay, a special CCB team raided the premises, confirming the horrifying reality that multiple women were being trafficked and exploited.
“The information was credible. A swift operation was carried out. Four women were rescued and two individuals involved in this heinous crime have been arrested,” said an official from the Bengaluru CCB.
The rescue operation has sparked shock and outrage, once again highlighting the growing concerns around illegal sex rackets operating within Bengaluru’s residential zones. The women, reportedly brought in from different parts of the country, were kept under surveillance and subjected to exploitation.
“These women were trapped, isolated, and made to live under constant fear. Their rescue is just the beginning. We are digging deeper into the network,” another official close to the investigation told News Flash.
A criminal case has been registered at the Basaveshwara Nagar police station, and further investigations are underway to trace the larger network behind the trafficking and exploitation. Officials suspect that more people may be involved, and efforts are being made to identify the masterminds and rescue other potential victims.
The bravery and prompt action of the Women’s Protection Unit have been widely appreciated, with several voices from civil society calling for stricter surveillance and harsher punishments for traffickers.
This case adds to the rising number of human trafficking and sex trade busts across Bengaluru, raising questions about the urgent need for neighbourhood vigilance, stronger legal deterrents, and increased support systems for victims.
