Heavy Rain & Storm Disrupt IGI Airport Operations | 48 Flights Diverted

New Delhi: Severe weather swept across Delhi-NCR on Sunday morning, bringing heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds that severely disrupted flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).


According to airport officials, at least 48 flights were diverted, while several others were delayed or cancelled due to poor visibility and turbulent weather. Passengers faced average delays of 30 minutes or more, as per Flightradar24.

Weather Fallout Across Delhi:

  • Waterlogging reported in several low-lying areas:

    • Moti Bagh

    • Minto Road

    • Delhi Cantonment

    • DDU Marg

  • Nanakpura Underpass severely inundated, disrupting traffic

  • Massive traffic snarls near Dhaula Kuan and arterial roads

  • Power outages and uprooted trees in parts of South Delhi and West Delhi

Red Alert Issued by IMD:

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Delhi and surrounding areas, including parts of Uttarakhand and Haryana.

  • More rain is predicted through the evening and night
