With Southwest Monsoon Winds in Full Swing, Continuous Rain Causes Mudslides on Bangalore-Mangalore Route; Motorists Urged to Exercise Caution Amid Escalated Weekend Traffic
Hassan: The state is currently enduring heavy pre-monsoon rains as the southwest monsoon winds have entered the region, leading to significant disruptions on key travel routes. Over the past two days, incessant downpours have triggered landslides on both sides of the Shiradi Ghat Road along the Bangalore-Mangalore stretch of National Highway 75.
In areas near Donigaal and Addanagudda in Sakleshpur taluk, the continuous rain has resulted in the collapse of soil, despite the presence of a retaining wall. Trees and large amounts of soil have fallen onto the roadway, creating hazardous conditions and disrupting vehicular traffic.
"The persistent rainfall has overwhelmed even the best engineering efforts, as landslides have occurred on both sides of Shiradi Ghat Road," stated a local traffic official. "Motorists, especially on this busy weekend, must drive very cautiously given the road hazards and increased vehicle traffic."
The incident has particularly impacted travel on the Bangalore-Mangalore road, forcing many commuters to seek alternate routes and causing significant delays during peak weekend travel hours. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and advising drivers to adhere to safety instructions while navigating the affected areas.
The current weather pattern serves as a stark reminder of the challenges posed by unrelenting monsoon rains. As the state braces for further weather events, the need for prompt remedial measures and vigilant public awareness has never been more critical.
