First Indian Woman Commander at Force 18 Flags Security Concerns Over Airspace Deception Amid Rising Indo-Pak Tensions
New Delhi: Colonel Sofia Qureshi, a trailblazer in the Indian Army’s Corps of Signals and the first woman to lead an Indian contingent at the Force 18 multinational military exercise, has raised serious concerns over Pakistan’s alleged misuse of international air routes during heightened military tensions.
Taking to social media platform ‘X’, Col. Qureshi said:
“It is a matter of concern that taking the cover of civilian aircraft taking off from Lahore, Pakistan misused international air routes—so that they can hide their activities. Such tactics compelled Indian air defence systems to act with great patience while ensuring civilian security.”
Her remarks come in the wake of ‘Operation Sindoor’, India’s strategic military response following the Pahalgam terror attack, which has seen escalating military activity along the Indo-Pak border.
Col. Qureshi’s statement highlights the challenges Indian air defence units face in distinguishing hostile movements camouflaged under civil aviation traffic, a tactic that poses grave risks to regional airspace safety.
A decorated officer, Col. Qureshi made history not only as the first woman to lead an Indian Army training team at Force 18, a joint field exercise with ASEAN Plus nations, but also stood out as the only female commander among all participating military leaders.
Her voice adds weight to the growing scrutiny over Pakistan’s alleged violations of aviation protocols amid conflict escalation.
