Mahadevapura, South Zones See Uptick; SARS Testing Intensified as BBMP Awaits State Directives

Bengaluru: As the city grapples with a subtle resurgence of COVID-19, BBMP Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao confirmed that 71 active COVID-19 cases have been detected within the BBMP limits, with Mahadevapura and South zones witnessing a noticeable increase.

In a public statement issued today, the Chief Commissioner revealed that surveillance has been ramped up, especially focusing on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) cases, which are being treated as early warning signs of a potential spread.

“We are waiting for further instructions from the health department on COVID. At present, we are focusing on severe acute respiratory illness (SARS) cases. A total of 71 cases have now been detected in our jurisdiction.”
said Maheshwar Rao, BBMP Chief Commissioner.

While there is no immediate cause for panic, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has intensified testing and survey operations, particularly in vulnerable clusters. The civic body is staying vigilant and may scale up testing further if the case count rises.

“If the number of cases increases further, the testing rate will be increased further.”
The BBMP Chief added, while urging citizens to cooperate with ongoing surveys and health checks.

The BBMP has issued an appeal to the public to remain calm and continue following COVID-appropriate behavior, such as wearing masks in crowded places, maintaining hygiene, and seeking medical attention if symptoms appear.

As Bengaluru readjusts to this emerging health concern, all eyes are on the state government and health department, whose upcoming directives will determine the next course of action for containment and control.
