Mangaluru: The coastal city of Mangaluru remains on edge following the gruesome murder of Hindu activist and rowdy-sheeter Suhas Shetty, with authorities imposing strict measures to prevent any outbreak of violence. The Dakshina Kannada District Collector has announced a complete shutdown today, and prohibitory orders are in place across Mangaluru city.

Addressing the media this morning, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) R. Hitendra confirmed the sensitive situation and assured that extensive security arrangements have been deployed. “Post-mortem of Suhas is underway and preparations for the funeral are ongoing. We request the public to remain calm and not fall prey to rumours,” he urged.

Accused Identified, Police in Pursuit

ADGP Hitendra also revealed that the identities of those involved in Suhas Shetty’s murder have been confirmed, and a special police team is actively working to apprehend them. The murder, which occurred in Bajpe’s Kinnipadavu area, has raised fears of retaliatory violence, prompting swift action from law enforcement.

Section 163 in Effect: City Under Prohibitory Orders

In a move to ensure peace and prevent gatherings, Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agarwal issued prohibitory orders under BNS Section 163, effective from 6 AM on May 2 to 6 AM on May 6. Tight security, including additional police forces and round-the-clock patrolling, has been deployed across the Mangaluru Police Commissionerate limits.

The district continues to remain tense, with shops shut, roads sparsely populated, and people glued to news developments. Authorities have appealed for public cooperation and urged citizens to refrain from sharing unverified information on social media.
