Explosive Attack on Expelled BJP MLA Basanagouda Yatnal: “Not Even the Soil of Our Father’s Feet,” Says Vijugowda Patil

Former State Seed Board Chief launches personal and political tirade, questions Yatnal’s roots, alleges betrayal and opportunism

Vijayapura: In a fiery political showdown, Vijugowda Patil, former President of the Karnataka State Seed and Organic Certification Board, launched a stinging personal attack on expelled BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, accusing him of betraying the family that built his political career, and questioning his very identity and origin.

Patil, who addressed a press conference in Vijayapura, did not mince words as he accused Yatnal of forgetting his roots, insulting elders, and distorting the truth for political gain.

“You are not even the soil of our father's feet. If someone talks about our father, we will not remain silent. If you have strength, come forward and speak!”
– Vijugowda Patil

"His Real Name is Dharmakadli" – Patil Goes Personal

Patil claimed that Basanagouda Yatnal’s real family name is ‘Dharmakadli’, and that his roots lie in Kaganeri village in Jatta taluk of Maharashtra, not Karnataka. He alleged that Yatnal's grandfather Basana Gowda hailed from Maharashtra and his father, Ramanagara, ran a pawnshop and once sold beedis.

“Yatnal is originally from Maharashtra. His father sold beedis, and the family ran a pawnshop. They have no right to question our legacy or belittle our name.”

Calling out what he termed as political opportunism, Patil added:

“It is our family that gave Yatnal a political life. Unlike him, we never raised money in the name of cattle or kept a can in our father’s name to collect funds.”

Legacy, Loyalty, and Betrayal

Patil also highlighted the contributions of his father as Municipal Council President, saying that his family’s legacy is eternal, and that even though his brother resigned from his position recently, it was done with dignity.

“When our father passed away in 1976, there wasn’t even water to drink – but the town came to a standstill. That was his stature. That’s the legacy Yatnal tries to erase.”

Challenging Yatnal's use of the ‘Patil’ and ‘Gowda’ identity, he said:

“Do you even know what ‘Gowda’ means? Come, we will show you what it truly means to carry that name.”

Internal Rift in Regional Politics

This high-voltage verbal attack is being seen as the latest chapter in the political tension brewing within North Karnataka’s power dynamics, especially following Yatnal’s expulsion from the BJP and increasing speculation about his next political move.

The feud, now spilling into personal history and identity, is expected to further polarize political sentiment in Vijayapura and surrounding districts.
