Shocking breach of privacy in Namma Metro; offensive Instagram page deleted, police launch probe to trace culprit behind disturbing videos

Bengaluru: In a disturbing incident that has sparked widespread public outrage, videos of unsuspecting young women being filmed inappropriately inside Namma Metro stations and trains surfaced on Instagram, causing major concern over safety and privacy in public transport.

The footage, primarily focusing on women’s private parts from behind, was shared via an Instagram handle titled "Bangalore Metro Clicks", which had gained over 5,500 followers before the content was removed.

"The footage was degrading. It feels terrifying to think anyone could be secretly filming us while commuting,"
said a female college student who frequently travels via metro.

Blatant Violation of Privacy

The Instagram page featured videos of young women walking or standing at metro stations, clearly filmed without their consent. These clips were captioned with inappropriate text such as “Beautiful girls in our metro,” which only fueled public anger.

“This is not just cybercrime. This is a serious violation of women’s dignity and security. The platform used for such content must also be held accountable,”
stated a women’s rights activist.

The fact that the footage was filmed inside public transportation – a place that thousands of women use daily – has sparked renewed conversations around digital voyeurism, surveillance abuse, and the need for stronger cybercrime laws and real-time monitoring in public spaces.

Instagram Page Deleted, FIR Registered

Following public outrage, the Instagram page has been deleted, and Bengaluru police have filed an FIR under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act and IPC related to cyber harassment and voyeurism.

“We have registered a case and are tracing the IP logs and user details behind the account. Strict action will be taken,”
said a senior police official from Bengaluru Cyber Crime Division.

Call for Safer Public Spaces

This incident comes as a wakeup call for authorities and digital platforms to act swiftly against content that violates personal boundaries, especially in sensitive urban spaces like metro systems. Civil society groups have demanded more surveillance, gender-sensitization, and fast-track justice in such cases.
