Heart-wrenching incident in Bengaluru Rural district; baby boy found inside a bag soaked in rainwater, rushed to hospital and now under care
Bengaluru: In a deeply disturbing incident, a newborn baby boy, believed to be just three days old, was found abandoned inside a bag on the banks of Amanikere Lake in Hoskote town, Bengaluru Rural district. The child was discovered by local residents after they heard the sound of the baby's cries.
“The child was completely drenched in rain and left unattended in a cloth bag. It’s a miracle the baby survived. Immediate medical attention was given, and he is now safe,”
said a local eyewitness who rushed to help.
According to reports, the baby was soaked in rainwater when concerned residents, responding to his cries, opened a suspicious-looking bag left near the lake. Shocked to find a newborn inside, they immediately alerted authorities and rushed him to the nearest government hospital, where he is now receiving proper care and nourishment.
Authorities Respond Swiftly
Officials from the Women and Child Welfare Department visited the spot for inspection and to ensure the child’s safety and further care arrangements. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Hoskote Police Station, which has launched an investigation into the matter.
“We are investigating who abandoned the baby and under what circumstances. Legal action will be taken under relevant sections,”
said a senior Hoskote police official.
Legal and Social Concern
Abandoning a child is a criminal offense under the Juvenile Justice Act, and police are currently gathering CCTV footage and speaking to residents to trace the identity of the person responsible.
This incident has sparked outrage and sadness among the community, with many demanding stricter action and better awareness about safe surrender options through legal adoption systems.
